Disc Golf

For a bit more of leisurely pace, check out the course at Klaus Park. This recreational course has plenty of obstacles and elevation changes to keep you interested.

If you are looking for a challenge, check out the Island Course on the north edge of town at the Jamestown Reservoir. This course is expansive, incorporating elevation changes and water hazards to gain its reputation as one of the toughest courses in the state.

Trails

Jamestown has over 35 miles of trails with variety to suit your needs; paved, unpaved, short, long, easy, challenging, nearby and scenic.

Several trails are available near the Jamestown Reservoir and Pipestem Lake & Dam if you are looking for scenery. The Reservoir has easy paved and challenging unpaved paths. The Pipestem Dam trail covers 3 miles if you just do the outside loop, but if you are looking for a challenge you can go up and down the hills of the middle loops to cover 8 miles. This trail is used for the Pipestem XTERRA Triathlon every June. The North Ridge Trail on the east side of Pipestem Dam covers 5 miles and allows horses.

The White Cloud Nature Trail is nearly 11 miles long and starts at the Veteran's Bridge in McElroy Park. It takes you behind the summer pasture for the bison herd owned by the National Buffalo Museum and around the State Hospital.

    • Marina around the Island is 0.5 mile
    • Boy Scout Trail is 0.25 mile
    • Portion starting at 19th St NE is 1 mile
  • Spillway Trail
    • 2 miles
    • Trail head at steps on the east end of the bridge of the dam
  • Split Rock Trail
    • 1.8 miles (not paved)
    • Trail head at the face of the dam on the east side of the Reservoir (trail follows below paved path)
    • Secondary trail head straight across from the ND Game and Fish office
  • Overlook Trail
    • 3.5 miles (not paved)
    • Enter at the end of the gravel road at Joos' Grove

Birding

Birding Drives Dakota , a devoted nonprofit, has worked with professional biologists, ornithologists and national wildlife refuges to create nine birding drives within a few miles of Jamestown.

Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge is north of Jamestown and was established as a breeding ground for migratory birds. Birding Drives Dakota hosts the Prairie and Potholes Festival here every June and Arrowwood hosts the Big Sit in October.

Chase Lake (west of Jamestown) has one of the largest white pelican nesting colonies in North America.

Hunting

Stutsman County has superior prospects for waterfowl, deer, and upland game hunting. Pipestem Lake, Jamestown Reservoir and Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge have lands that are open to the public. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department can provide information on Conservation PLOTS and licensing.

Outdoor activities like ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and sledding combine with indoor activities, events, and Jamestown College and Jamestown High School athletics will keep you busy all winter long.

Cross Country Skiing

Skating - Outdoor Rinks

Snowmobiling

Jamestown is one of the hubs for the Sheyenne Valley Trail (one of the Snowmobile North Dakota trails). State park, rivers, ditches, shelter belts, this trail takes you through beautiful byway scenery.
