Gladstone Online Deals
an opinion posted on 1/29/08

We've had the ability to make reservations on our web site for quite a while, now. Even though people can make reservations right from our site, we still get a lot of people making reservations through other travel web sites. Since the contents of our reservations database is shared with them, the other web sites have the ability to see the rooms that we have left and the rates for those rooms.

Mostly in an effort to keep all of our rooms as affordable as possible, we do not offer our rooms through Priceline or Hotwire. If we were to do that, of course, the difference would have to be made up, somewhere. That's just how business works. I've worked with the two mentioned "discount" web sites in the past and from all that I've personally seen, they aren't worth the trouble that the hotels that use them have to go through. Of course, this was just my experience, and others may have had better luck.

I'm sure that you've all seen the Priceline commercial with Captain Kirk William Shatner "coming to the rescue" of a traveler that seems to be paying too much for a hotel room. The room starts out at something like $200 a night. After "negotiating", they finally get the rate down to $99 and everybody ends up happy.

Now, I've heard people joke about how businesses will raise the prices of things in their store before a big sale, and for the most part (in retail) that doesn't happen. When hotels are in the habit of taking such huge discounts from these types of web sites, though, it can happen. How many of the people reading this have "ever" paid $200 or more for a hotel room? Probably not a lot, since you're obviously looking for information, online.

The real point of posting all of this is to point out that the best deal that you will get from "any" hotel web site is by reserving at the hotel's own web site. Rather than looking for a good deal at a hotel you want to stay at by going to another site, try looking on the site, itself. You may be surprised by how much you'll be saving, in the long run. You can "start out" happy, rather than going through negotiations and "ending up" happy.

Testing A Slideshow
posted 1/23/08

I just wanted to try this new slideshow out, and see how it worked. Now that I've seen how it looks, using this service, I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to use it for any main part of the site. I will keep it here, in the "Hotel News" section, though. There is a possibility that I will remove it at a later time, though.

New Suite Coming

posted 12/2/07

While we still are not sure of the name for the new suite that's being designed, I wanted to let you know that it's on it's way. We'll soon have "two" Jaccuzzi suites to choose from. From the looks of the plans, this new one will be better than the Getaway Suite! The room will still have the same overall design, but the layout and deco in the room will be different. Think, more romantic!

The room will be located on the North end of the building, downstairs. I wasn't personally around when the Getaway Suite was built, so I won't take a guess right now, as to when this new one will be done. Once I talk to Brian Block and Marlin DeCoteau, who are working on it, I'll hopefully have a better idea of the timeline, and when we can expect this one to be wrapped up.

I'll be taking some pictures of the construction of the new suite, and hope to be able to show them on the site. I'll post more updates, soon. Stay tuned for the announcement of the suite name, also.

Autumn 2007 Update

posted 10/11/07

Well, it has definitely been a while since we've updated the "latest news" section of our site. So far, 2007 has been a great year. We've been steadily updating various parts of the hotel and improving our guests' experience.

One new theme suite was added, a couple months ago, but we still need to get pictures and a good description, before we post it on the web site. I'll announce that in another post to follow.

Both the men and women's public bathrooms have been completely remodeled and updated, giving them a total new look and feel. New floors, new paint, and new countertops, combined with "brighter" lighting make them more comfortable than they were, in the past.

The pool was drained and repainted in late Spring and new patio furniture was added to the pool area. The pool area is also more secure than ever before, meaning that people trying to spend time in the pool area after it closes will not be too successful. This means that our poolside rooms are also more secure and quiet. The pool area opens at 7:00am and closes at 11:00pm, so between 11:00pm and 7:00am there won't be any noise to disturb poolside guests.

At the beginning of Summer, we invested a lot into getting new furniture for the rooms, including new mattresses and box springs, desks, and decor.

Many other upgrades and additions have been done that are too numerous to mention here. Our maintenance workers and local contractors have done a great job, and will continue to make your next stay at the Gladstone Inn & Suites even better.

Three New Suites
We have recently added three new theme suites to our selection of uniquie rooms. Pictures and descriptions of the new suites will be getting added to the web site, very soon. If you would like to make a reservation for a specific theme suite, please call the hotel directly, at 701-252-0700.

The latest additions are The Nascar Mini Suite, The Gambler's Suite, and The Fishing Lodge Suite, and there's even more in the works. Each of the rooms have their own individual style which match the room's names.
The Nascar Mini Suite is a non-smoking room, decorated with checkered flags, car hoods, and other racing-type things. There is a king-size bed and even a race car bed for the little ones.

The Gambler's Suite is a smoking room, with one king-size bed. There's a hexagon poker table, as well as a refrigerator and microwave. The room is bordered with straights, flushes, and full houses.

The Fishing Lodge Suite is a non-smoking room, with one king-size bed. The room is full of fishing memorabilia, including pictures and wall border. Tom tried to get us to dig a hole, and put in a private fishing pond, but we thought that might be a little extreme.

We'll get the full descriptions of these new theme suites, as well as pictures, posted on the web site, as soon as possible.
